Christians against gay marriages

With two landmark gay marriage cases before the Supreme Court we are already seeing a flurry of articles, posts, tweets, and status updates about the triumph it will be when America finally embraces equality for all and allows homosexuals to love each other. These tweets and posts and articles perfectly capture the reason why the arguments for gay marriage have become so persuasive so fast. Given the assumptions and patterns of thinking our culture has embraced in the last fifty years, the case for gay marriage is relatively easy to make and the case against it makes increasingly little sense. For a long time, homosexuality seemed weird or gross. Now it seems normal.

Pro-homosexual statements and actions are occurring more and more in our world. It shouldn't be surprising to see a Christian response to the contrary. Of course, some "Christians" aren't exactly shining examples of tact and grace, though such a tone should always be our aim. And the Holy Spirit enables us to explain what we believe with gentleness and respect 1Peter But it's usually the inarticulate, angry-faced ranter who gets the spotlight in our 'round-the-clock news world. Those kinds of "Christians" don't speak for me and they certainly don't represent Christ.

In the debate over gay marriage, opponents have many arguments that profess their belief that it should not be legal. These include many moral and religious reasons that point to a threat to the sacred institution of marriage. This debate brings up many questions.
